Ruben Castillo Obituary

Ruben Eddie Castillo was born on the 21st of April, 1942 to Hernandez Castillo and Aurelia Aragon Castillo in Belen New Mexico. After the passing of his mother at age 4, his father married Ramona Baca Castillo who remained a loving part of his life until her passing. Ruben graduated from Belen High School in 1960 and went to work at Valley Gold in Albuquerque.  He joined the Air Force in 1961 and served for 23 years and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant(E-8). During his 23 years in the Air Force, he was most proud being awarded the Bronze Star which he earned for his actions in Vietnam.  Also, during this time, he met and married his wife Nancy and remained married for 44 years.  After retirement from the Air Force, he joined the Civil Service for the Base Reprographics Office where he served for 14 years.  Upon retirement, he moved to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico to do his lifetime passion of fishing.  He had a love for the Dallas Cowboys since their inception.  He also had a love for racquetball and woodworking where he built his own workshop and crafted a variety of items such as furniture and wall decorations.  He was a faithful servant of God.  He went to church every day, read his scripture and prayer books every morning and every evening faithfully.  Whoever met him always said that he was such a “nice man” and he never said a bad word about anyone.  He instilled a strong work ethic in all those around him and especially in all his children because he believed in earning the nice things in life through effort.  He was patient, full of integrity and loyal to his friends and family.  He is survived by his wife Nancy, his sister Martha Torres, his two daughters Elizabeth Wess (Dennis) and Karen Shook (Craig), his son Christopher Castillo (Alisa), his stepson Frank Willis (Tasha), his grandchildren Brian, Jill, Mark, Scott, Jordan, Parker, Seth, Deja, and Leo and his great-grandchildren Paxton and Speed.  The family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation made in his memory to the Albuquerque Fisher House at 1501 San Pedro SE Attn: Fisher House Bldg 85, Albuquerque, NM 87108.Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W.
