Donald Scovill Obituary

Donald "Wayne" Scovill, age 66, a resident of Belen, NM went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 18, 2022. Wayne is fondly remembered by those who knew him best for his endless strength, amazing work ethic, love for his family, quick and smart wit, his cooking, and baking abilities, as well as his love for anything related to the great outdoors or being in the mountains. Wayne was a graduate of West Mesa High School. Throughout his younger adult years, he worked alongside his father and brother in the family businesses, assembling campers for Mooncraft Campers, and in the auto industry through Belen Import Auto, Scovill Auto Recyclers and Scovill Glass. For a period of time, Wayne lived and worked in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He enjoyed his work at Harvey's Hotel and Casino and would often tell stories about that adventure. He also worked for PNM at the San Juan Generating Station in the four corners area. Wayne and his family were proud members of the Belen Elks Lodge, where he was very involved and served as Exalted Ruler in 1988-1989. During this time, he enjoyed attending conferences and competing in Ritual contests all over New Mexico and the southwestern U.S. Anyone who knew Wayne could attest to his ability to be a jack of all trades. He loved to take on projects of all shapes and sizes, from framing houses, to home maintenance, to general construction, his ability to solve problems through patience, hard work, trial, and error was like no other. There was never a challenge too big to face. His work ethic and dedication made for a career which he thoroughly enjoyed and gave him a reputation that if something could be fixed, Wayne was the one who could fix it. Wayne had an innate love for hunting and spending time in the mountains of New Mexico, which he passed on to his children. He thoroughly enjoyed his hunting and firewood gathering trips with family and friends and would often recount stories of his favorite memories doing such. Every winter, Wayne could be found coming back from the mountains with Dwayne, Kevin, and whole truckloads of firewood in tow. Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Scovill, Jr., and his brothers, Danny, and Carlie Scovill. He is survived by his mother, Georgia Scovill, sister Charlene Waldron and his 5 children Shelly, Dustin, Dwayne, Kevin, and Kayla, as well as his loving grandchildren who he adored and would spoil every chance he got. He is also survived by many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. The urn bearer will be Wayne's grandson, John Wayne Scovill. A memorial to celebrate Wayne's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Belen on December 9, 2022. A reception will follow immediately after. The family would like to thank everyone who has and continues to reach out with love, support, and prayers during this time. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505) 864-4448, where an online guest register is available at www.noblin.com.
